Located in the neigborhood of Wraggborough, Charleston, the museum was established in 1773 and was opened to public in 1824. The Charleston Museum is considered as one of the oldest museums in the United States. Its highly famed collection includes historic artifacts, natural history exhibits, decorative arts and two historic Charleston homes. The Charleston Museum comprises of two levels of display area that showcase the history of Charleston and the Lowcountry by displaying hundreds of items ranging from ancient fossils to Civil War artifacts.

  • The Low Country History Hall features the history of South Carolina from the first inhabitant Native Americans to the colonists and enslaved African Americans.
  • The Early Days exhibit showcases artifacts from early human history including Egyptian artifacts, a mummy, and a mummy case.
