Also found in Kentucky, is the World Peace Bell which is one of the seven Peace Bells located in different parts of the world. The bell was casted in Nantes, France and was shipped to the United States through the port of New Orleans. The bell then traveled through the Mississippi and Ohio rivers aboard a barge.

From 2000-2006, it was also the world’s largest free-swinging bell at 12 feet high and 12 feet wide, and weighing 66,000 pounds. The bell bears inscriptions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and markings for important historical events from the past millennium.

  • The bell was cast in a foundry in France and sailed to the US and was first rang for the first time in the U.S. on January 1, 2000, at midnight. Struck twelve times, its peal was heard for distances of about 25 miles (40 km).
  • The World Peace Bell in Newport, Kentucky is the world’s largest free swinging bell. It weighs 66,000 lbs., is 12 feet in diameter and 12 feet high.
